Cities versus nations: options for responding to current political and economic trends

The discussion over the city as a unit of politics and economics in a context of nation states is longstanding.  This difference however has been dramatically highlighted in 2016 with the Brexit referendum and with the American federal election – where the urban / rural cultural, political and economic differences became the battle ground for the future of both countries.

CityLab just posted an interesting typology of responses that cities around the world are taking to current economic and political trends, including the City of London (UK) looking at a city visa to keep free trade with the EU alive.
